They say every picture tells a story and the first picture certainly tells one. Second half of 1974 and 1975 were relatively bad for Superstar Krishna as none of his films fared as expected. However, he was still a force to reckon with as is evident from the first day collections of “Rakthasambandhaalu“. The movie shocked and awed the trade by collecting Rs 2.87 lakhs on its first day from 46 theatres (pix 3). These numbers provide a great perspective on Krishna’s stardom as openings for his films during these years were also at par with those earned by movies of in form actors. “Annadammula Anubandham”, for instance, debuted one month before “Rakthasambandhaalu“ and collected approximately Rs 18.6 lakhs in one week (new record). But its first day revenues will certainly not have been more than 3 lakhs and this reinforces the view that Krishna was an “openings hero“.
